I absolutely love Rise, the level of humanity in the stories and your ability to create characters that feel like human beings is astonishing. How are able to get into minds of so many various characters? Also, are you currently working on anything, a Rise sequel perhaps? :)

Dear Damian,
Thanks for your kind words about Rise. Each story in the collection began with a character, and I usually "lived with" the character for a week or two before I wrote anything. I tried looking at the world through their eyes and -- strange as it sounds -- they led me through their stories.
Right now I am working on a novel based on the story "Dead Languages" from the collection. I have a first draft done and am deep into revisions.
My first novel The Vanishing Sky is also very character-based. It's set in WW2 Germany and inspired by my family history.
