Yakiri Truth
Yakiri Truth asked Christine Feehan:

Hello. I am a huge fan of the Dark/Carpathian series. I love the stories, people and culture you have created. What inspired the Carpathian race and how did you create their language?

Christine Feehan I used to tell my children stories at night, particularly my oldest son Calvert. After I lost him, I was devastated. As a mother, you have to get up and carry on. The world keeps going and you're in this place of numbness. The Carpathians were born from that. Feeling no emotion. Feeling as if there was no color or joy in the world. What brought that back? For them "the one". For me it was family. So, I blended them together.
The language was from a misstep, trying to use Latin as a base. I took it to my friend who is brillian and can do anything. His wife gave us what for, for not coming to eat when she called us, but she said it in Hungarian. That became the key. His genius all the way. Not mine.
