A Goodreads user asked Marilyn Foxworthy:

Love your Nogud series, not so much for the gushing princesses, but the world building, plus the fact that I live in Portland and the Gorge is one of my favorite places on Earth. I'm Curious? Did you talk about the Dams in your stories. I don't remember reading about them. Not sure they would last 800 years unmanaged.

Marilyn Foxworthy The dams were one of the first things to fail. As soon as you quit maintaining the turbines, they start to bind and build up heat. Then something breaks and one of them starts to freewheel. Before long, one breaks free and damages those nearby and possibly sends a huge mass of spinning machinery crashing into - or through - the interior walls. After that everything falls apart quickly.

Oh, that's right. The remains of the dam are mentioned in the Nogud Book 6 as they float down river and one of the nymphs, probably Mandy, talks about what happened. Now it's just a submerged ruin that changes the current slightly. She is very upset by how they used to treat the sea lions coming to the dam to eat salmon. She doesn't really understand that it was a little more complex than that but she really didn't like them using loud fireworks to scare them away. Mandy calls them mermaids.

Fun question. Thanks.
