Kim asked Blake Crouch:

When writing a book, is it best to plan the entire story line from the way it starts and the way it ends? Or just gather up enough information of your book, and just work from there?

Blake Crouch If you know what the ending is before starting and it's amazing, then yes, write toward it. But I often find that it's the process of writing the book that informs what the ending should be. Before I start a book, I at least have a good sense of what happens through the midpoint. I don't think I have ever known how a good of mine will end before starting to write it.
