C.R. asked Kristal Shaff:

Hi Kristal, I have written a couple of books myself, and working on a third. I would really like an opportunity to be published, but I think my Query letter and synopsis is lacking. Do you have any tips or advice? Thanks! Cassie

Kristal Shaff Tips and advice on query letters and synopsis? Oh my. They are oh so hard. :)

Query letter: I will say, sometimes I think it is easier to write a query before you have the book done, that way all the small details don't get in the way. Try to avoid cliches and words that make your work sound generic. What makes your book truly unique? Also, get friends to read it first and rip it apart. If a friend says "great job" get another friend to read.

Synopsis: A friend of mine writes her synopsis by jotting down a sentence or two from each chapter as she is writing, and then she puts it all together and smooths it out. Me, personally, I always queried the agents who didn't ask for a synopsis first. lol

Good luck! If you find the secret, let me know! :)
