What was your biggest inspiration for Zom-B? Did the series feel fufilling to write and if so your thoughts on why that is?

Darren Shan It was inspired by the rise of the far-right in the wake of the 9/11 attacks in the USA and 7/7 bombings in London. I was worried by how fearmongers and hatemongers were cashing in on people's fears and trying to portray all Muslims as potential terrorists, people we had to watch closely and keep in rein. I wanted to write a series to address that, to warn young readers to be careful who they trusted and who they empowered to rule their country, or else we'd wind up living in... well, in a world very much like the one we sadly find ourselves in today! :-(

Regarding the amazing Zom-B series, was there a moment of "too much familiarity" in the news regarding COVID-19 at any point? The series got even more gripping for me, then - it was too realistic during the re-read. Was there any feeling of pride, having written something that was so clever it actually came too close to reality, or more worry? (What would Dr Oystein say?)
