Jared asked Lawrence Wright:

As society starts to shudder and stop under the weight of a pandemic what are some of the unexpected parts of modern life (i.e. a run on toilet paper) you were excited about writing about? Thanks, Jared

Lawrence Wright In real life, I anticipated the toilet paper crisis, but I missed that in the novel. I also underestimated the solidarity of people to shut themselves in their houses and apartments, at great cost. But I have to say the government has behaved as badly or worse than I described in the novel. One of the most exciting features of the research and writing had to do with submarines. But you'll have to read the book, no spoilers from here on.
