John asked Lawrence Wright:

Even though you are dealing with a fictional narrative (funny saying that with what's going on) in The End of October, was your approach to writing the same as it would have been if you were writing a piece of nonfiction or did it change?

Lawrence Wright Yes in the sense of researching it, and then tying myself to the chair and writing it everyday. As you point out, this was close enough to reality that I sometimes felt I was writing a story that was suspended between reality and fiction.
