Do you think that American's lack of preparation and failure to react in a timely fashion are signs that this country is headed toward chaos and dysfunction? Even now, the federal government wants to see state and local governments go bankrupt rather than providing the fiscal help that they sorely need. (I am attempting to keep this a partisan question but that is a fine line these days.)

Lawrence Wright I am very concerned about where our country is headed. The partisanship, the lack of competence and accountability, our retreat from leadership, these all trouble me enormously. Wars, depressions, and--yes--pandemics are like X-Rays that allow you to see deep into the society we live in. We have an opportunity to take that knowledge and make a better country. I sure hope we do. This won't be the last time we're severely tested.
