Off and on, I have been reading authors you say were those you found influential in your writing. I an now reading CJ Cherryh, and just finished Foreigner. Wow. I see what you mean about "influence." Is this the series you were thinking of when you said she was an influencer?

Hah, actually the Chanur books are the ones I come back to again and again--and Downbelow Station. Jenny Casey woul not exist without Signy Mallory. But yes, her themes of alienation and damaged people doing the best they can in untenable situations are definitely things that filtered into my own work.

Have you seen the image of Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter, licking his lips and looking hungrily at the audience for the third season of Hannibal? Because when I saw that, he reminded me of Mingan, gazing intently at Muire or Cathoair in All the Windwracked Stars. ;) I'm not sure if Mingan's hair has ever been that short, though. :)
