Maddie Lock
Maddie Lock asked Lisa Wingate:

I loved Before We Were Yours so much I immediately ordered The Book of Lost Friends. I was not disappointed! I'm writing a historical fiction book with a memoir twist based on my German family surrounding WWII. It too deals with secrets and loss of identity. I very much related to the loss of family and immoral shenanigans. What were your motivations for writing about these subjects?

Lisa Wingate A replay of Discovery's TV program "Women above the Law" brought the Memphis adoption scandal to my attention, I dug into the research and started writing Before We Were Yours (BWWY).

After reading BWWY a reader emailed me telling about volunteering to flesh out a data base of the Lost Friends ads placed by people wanting to find family members after the Civil War. I was off and running on the research and could barely force myself to stop researching and start writing.

On my website, I have book club kits and videos where I discuss my inspirations for writing all my recent books. Just go the For Book Clubs on LisaWingate.com if you'd like to know more.
