A professor introduced me to you Imager Portfolio saying you based some of the Imager's abilities on theories from science. I believe he stated Quantum Mechanics and M theory. Is there truth to this? Has other scientific theories inspired your works?

L.E. Modesitt Jr. I have used scientific theories, to a greater or lesser degree, in formulating all of my different magic systems. The magic system most based on physics/Quantum Mechanics, however, is the order/chaos magic of The Saga of Recluce. The imager magic does take into account the law of the conservation of energy and matter, and failure to understand this is the reason why untrained imagers have a disturbing tendency to die young.

Also, my latest book, QUANTUM SHADOWS, definitely relies on quantum mechanics.

I love your writing, I have many of your books! I love the Corean Chronicles! Did you intend to keep us 'in the dark' to the reasons why Dainyl did the things he did? I felt he had an understanding on how the world worked that wasn't shared, he acted on intuition, but didn't go back to analyse what was going on. Do you intentionally just tell the story/actions and allow us to fill in what motivates a character?
