My advice would be two-fold:
First, write something every single day, no matter what. If you get stuck on your work in progress, write something else. There's no shame in having 5 or 6 works all in progress at the same time.
Second, write what you want. If you try to write to the market or reader expectations you will end up with soulless drivel. It will also drive you crazy.
