Thanks for the question! Books we read when we're young adults can make a profound impression on us. Books I loved as a teen - I still adore them today. They are part of me. I write about underrepresented parts of history and I want to introduce these obscure historical events and time periods to young people. Young people are our future and hopefully with knowledge of historical tragedy and hardship, they will not repeat the mistakes of the past. Interesting though - although my target is young adults I think my readership is a 50/50 balance of adults and teens. In many countries I'm published for adults only. :-)

I'd just like to thank you for writing Between Shades of Gray. I read it when I was in 6th grade and it had a big impact on my life. This book made me want read more World War II stories. Because of this, I discovered many more World War II stories that also greatly impacted my life. I also loved Salt to the Sea. Thank you for writing such life-changing stories. What will you write next?
