How did you come up with or what inspired you to start the "Maiden Lane"series?

A lot of things: the gin wars in London at this time, the idea of an historical masked avenger (Scaramouche, The Scarlet Pimpernel) wanting to do a more involved series with reoccurring characters, storylines, and settings. Basically just a desire to evolve as a writer.
