Two books that had pooka's in them: The Grey Horse by R.A. MacAvoy (a horse); and War for the Oaks by Emma Bull (a dog), excited my imagination when I first read them. It wasn't only the shapechanging aspect but that they were from another world that existed side-by-side with our own, with a vastly different culture, which intrigues me.
Since then I've read so many stories and myths of fantastical creatures that I knew I wanted to explore them in a book (the College Fae series). So it's been fun to re-imagine them into my own little universe.
