“The Book of Lost Friends” has so much that stays with me as a reader. The school scenes with Benny were so real: The kids with raised hands, “Oh, oh!” and then speaking without permission. Aunt Sarge telling Benny that the good teachers always leave. Lisa, your mom Sharon was my colleague in OK years ago. Are those school examples from your own experience, or maybe from your mom?

Hi Lisa, Mom remembers you and says Hello! Several teachers in my family and the family I married into tell tales around the dinner table and campfire. The stories in the book are some blend of those, and my own experience as a student. Mom has been my first reader during my career, and she is sure to tell me if something doesn't seem realistic in a school scene. I'm glad you found Benny and the students so compelling. Hello Lisa, My mom's book club read "Before We Were Yours," and she gave it to me when she came to visit for Christmas. I have one question that I didn't see covered in the book. How would Trent have been able to trace Judy and find out what happened to Lark since Georgia changed the kids' names and she and the people who cooperated with her falsified so many records?
