Camille Wintz
Camille Wintz asked K.D. Edwards:

Hi! So, I was wondering. In the Last Sun, Quinn asks Rune why he's speaking slowly, as though Quinn doesn't speak English. But then, we have Old Atlantean, and what I assume is New Atlantean, and we're told the humans think Atlantean is the new Klingon. So what are they speaking on the island? English, New Atlantean? Do they learn other languages in school? Sorry if this question has been asked before!

K.D. Edwards What an awesome question. Old Atlantean isn't used anymore -- though it did have vague Latin derivations (OR WAS LATIN INSPIRED BY OLD ATLANTEAN?!). Latin used to be the language that Atlantean people spoke commonly 2,000 years ago; now it's English. Atlantean culture shifts with the word culture, and skews closer and closer to it the more they get intertwined.

I'd imagine they learn all popular languages in school, especially languages which may become the next globally dominant common language.
