Goodreads asked Josh Ritter:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Josh Ritter I deal with writer’s block by doing one of two things: either I write through it, putting words down on the page until one of them sticks, or I tell myself that I just don’t have anything important to say at that moment and maybe I would be more useful if I did the dishes. There’s no rule that says you have to always have something to say, and when you make up something just to speak, people get tired of you very fast. So sometimes it’s best just to keep mum. Actually, the third way, complaining a lot to significant others like family and friends, can sometimes be satisfying as well, and a healthier option than drinking.
