What was your biggest inspiration when writing the Cirque Du Freak series?

Darren Shan I just wanted to write the type of horror book for children that didn't exist when I was a child. I drew inspiration from all over the place -- lots of horror films I'd and and horror books I'd read -- but from nowhere specific.
