Greg Strandberg
Greg Strandberg asked L.E. Modesitt Jr.:

Where did you learn so much about carpentry? I really enjoyed those small details in the Recluce books.

L.E. Modesitt Jr. Although my father was an attorney, he did woodworking on the side, and I grew up around it. The only piece of furniture I've made, however, was a cherry cradle, using only hand tools, and that convinced me my future didn't lie in woodworking. A number of my grandchildren slept in it, and one of my daughters has it now.
