Jim asked Marilyn Foxworthy:

Marilyn, Greetings. I'm hooked on your books. Relating to the Nogud series, what are your thoughts reconciling the seeming ease for a woman to run away and declare herself a widow with the permanent attachment of bedmate tokens? Thanks for all of the entertainment that you have shared.

Marilyn Foxworthy I like this question! The tokens are... tokens. They represent commitment. And yes, a woman can declare herself a widow in that culture easily enough. And the token can be removed. The tokens chosen by the main characters are permanently sealed, but it is explained that not all are. Even a ring on the finger works as a token. But we also have the fact that the man's commitment is not the same as the woman's in this society. The token is a sign of the permanence of his commitment more than the woman's. Hey, I didn't make up these rules - they did. Nest woshes.
