The book is advertised as being a mix of Apollo 13 and Castaway (which is very fitting). Were these the inspirations you used in writing the book? Or were there other stories you pulled inspiration from?

Andy Weir Apollo 13, definitely. Castaway... I don't know. Not intentionally. I would say MacGyver was a larger inspiration that that.

In the original version of the book there was a scene at the very end of the book where Mark is back on Earth. When I reread "The Martian" that scene was cut from the book(newer version). Why was it cut?
