How confident are you in Ridley Scott's upcoming cinematic vision of your work? What sacrifices were made from the novel for the film adaptation and what was your level of input during the screenwriting process?
Andy Weir
I'm very confident. They have an unbelievable lineup of talented performers and one of the greatest directors of all time. I've seen the screenplay (written by Drew Goddard, by the way) and I'm very happy with it.

As a non math/science minded person, I particularly appreciated the asides/explanations of the more difficult-to-understand science-y stuff in The Martian, and Watney's dry sense of humor was uplifting in a dire situation. I'm curious, was it a conscious choice to keep Watney upbeat and cracking jokes even when things were looking extremely grim, instead of having his attitude turn sour (like most people's might)?
