Why does the publications date of A Play of Shadows keep getting pushed back? (I'm not complaining, just asking). And do you have any books coming out between now and the current date for that book (Sept 2023)?
Sebastien de Castell
Part of this has been because of pandemic issues around the book business – specifically because it limits viable slots for doing a "major" release. Oddly though, part of the blame is shared between my agent, my editor and I as the three of us go back and forth on the overall publication strategy for the Court of Shadows series. Ultimately though, the blame rests with me because if I'd just 100% committed to making Play of Shadows the first book in the series ages ago when I finished it, the book would already be out now.
All that said, it's definitely coming out Sept 2023 and there's also going to be a new book soon to be announced coming earlier in January 2023. In addition, I'll be releasing a new Greatcoats book this year, but that's all secret for now . . .

I know you have plans for another series featuring different characters with maybe some walk on parts for our beloved Falcio, Kest, and Brasti. Being a fan of those characters, that is like offering a child a piece of candy but only allowing one lick and then taking it away. Like Michael J Sullivan has done with his Riyria characters, maybe, you could give us some standalone books featuring our favorite Greatcoats?

Thank you! I found an online retailer where I can purchase the US hardbacks of all the books, even Traitor's Blade! Keeping my fingers crossed for you to get the audio rights. Whoever is holding them hostage probably know that audio books have become extremely popular and the profit ratio for producing and selling them is very lucrative. PS This is not a ? but I have to insert a ? to have this accepted!? :-)

Hi! First of all, I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved the Greatcoats series and it definitely has a place among my all-time favourite series! Second, I was curious about how you interpret Kest's feelings about Falcio - whether you see them as platonic, brotherly, romantic, or something else, and to what extent they influence Kest’s actions throughout the book? Thank you for all your wonderful writing!
