On page 195 you've got a fascinating dialogue about keeping the negotiations amongst scientists rather than amongst diplomats. How do you see this political ideology in the context of today AND in the long context of science fiction as a genre?

Andy Weir Honestly I just didn't want to have the story wander off into the President, the Chinese Communist Party, the State Department, etc. The story is about a stranded astronaut, not complex international politics. So I snuck around it with that line about keeping it among scientists.

I never have ANY political message in any of my stories. I promise, they're all purely written to entertain.
