Jackie
Jackie asked Stuart Gibbs:

Hello, Mr. Gibbs! I love your book series Spy School. I am in a Book Club at my middle school and we just read the first book of Spy School. I was wondering if there is any deeper reason that Alexander Hale is not a good spy. Additionally, what was the inspiration for your Spy School series? Thank you for your time!

Stuart Gibbs I felt that no real person could possibly be as good a spy as James Bond. So if someone seemed to be that good, then they had to be lying about their abilities. (Plus, a bad spy can be much funnier than a good one.)

I explain the inspiration for the SS series (and all my other series as well) on the faq page of my website: www.stuartgibbs.com
