Normally, I would say that you have to read the books and decide for yourself based on the evidence. Canon, by definition, is what is in the text, not what I or anyone else might say about it afterwards. Some characters like to come right out and tell you how they identify. Many do not, or maybe they are not entirely sure themselves. (Just like in real life.) However, Will answers this question definitively in Sun and the Star. Mark Oshiro, my co-author, actually decided this, and once they did, I thought, "Oh, okay, makes total sense." But you'll have to wait for the book to see!

Hey Mr. Riordan! My name is Grace, and I've been a HUGE fan for over 10 years. Your books have gotten me through many a tough time... which brings me to my question. When I write I get into these slumps, not writer's block necessarily, I feel lethargic, overly analytical, and like no one cares except me. Do you ever get into these moods where you feel like what you're doing is worthless? if so, how do you combat it?
