Mary asked Issabelle Perry:

What are your writing goals for 2023? What do you think would be some good goals for a new writer like me?

Issabelle Perry Hi, Mary! Thank you for the question!! My goals for 2023 are to be more consistent with my virtual work, such as posting more consistently on my blog and having better response times for emails or other messages. I want to try to write two novels this year since I've been averaging about one a year, and it would be cool to see if I could do two. But my biggest 2023 goal is to have concrete publishing plans together by the end of the year. Oo this is a fantastic question! I think in trying to come up with goals it's good to look at where you are now as a writer, where you envision yourself being one day, and decide what plausible goals you can reach this year in going one step closer to that dream! For example, perhaps you want to be a published novelist, but you've been struggling for years trying to finish that novel. This year's goal could be to complete a novel or maybe to complete a novella if you're having a hard time staying committed to one project. Or it could be to try better at balancing writing and life. Maybe you've already written that novel and are wanting to now improve your craft. A goal for the new year could be to get a critique partner or beta readers. Maybe you want to try your hand at publishing this year, and your goal could be to submit a short story to a writing contest or build your socials. I hope this was helpful!
