Goodreads asked David Crumm:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

David Crumm When I teach journalism classes, I usually ask, "What's the difference between an amateur and a professional writer?" The answer is, "Professional writers, especially journalists, write whether they feel like it or not." The journalism craft becomes a skill, like woodworking or cooking at a professional level in which writing becomes almost muscle memory.
One way to develop that is to write every single day. And, I have been for more than 50 years. I experience the world and I'm always thinking of how to translate that into words I can convey to others.
There are lots of tips for careers in writing that you can find online, but the core of the craft is learning and absorbing the craft itself until it becomes the way you experience the world.
That's my best advice. Write. Every. Single. Day.
