Keri asked S.E. Jakes:

Wanted to take a moment and thank you for you writing prowess. I've been enjoying your writing for over a year now. Just finished "Running Wild" and was wondering what background you did to come up with the legend for the Havoc land. It sounded like a very interesting history

S.E. Jakes Thanks Keri :) Always great to hear! As for the myth of Havoc in Running Wild, I'm going to have to say what I usually do (and knowing that to some people it sounds crazy) but my characters sort of come alive for me. I hear them talking in my head, and most of the time, it's like I'm simply a scribe. So Ryker was the one who originally began discussing the Havoc legend - and I thought it was pretty cool too! I'm definitely a believer in things like that--usually things that become myth have some truth in them, and that the parts that aren't truth are symbolic (for instance, I'm assuming the Indian burial ground is a truth and the four horseman is an embellishment, if that makes sense, a symbol of the men who came back from war and started Havoc, or a nod to them.) And I also believe that there's a certain kind of magic all around if we're open to it. I realize this might be the most confusing answer ever - I hope I answered you somewhat!
