Kell asked Rick Riordan:

Hi Rick! I have been wondering about the cover for "Chalice of Gods" and noticed that its cover is very different (design-wise) from previous books in the Percy Jackson world and your other books, may I ask what was the rationale behind the different cover? Was it due to the age of the characters in the book?

Rick Riordan This is just something publishers do every few years. It's called 'refreshing' the covers. They find that changing the look helps get attention from booksellers and book buyers. I like the new US covers a lot, but I understand many people have nostalgia for the covers they first owned. I have that same feeling for books I loved when I was younger! It isn't practical to go backwards and design a new book than fits covers from fifteen years ago, though, which in many cases are no longer in print, so the best we can do is make the new book fit the present covers for the PJO series, which it does!
