By writing. I know that sounds strange, but the hardest part of writing is getting started. I'm always afraid I don't have any ideas, or if I have ideas they're not good enough, but when I sit down and just write, I find that inspiration follows. The muse speaks to those who show up and do the work.

Hi Liesl--this question is from my mom, who just finished reading Rump to lead a school book-club. "How do you feel about the similarities between "Rump" and the television show, "Once"? Are you a fan of the show? My mom also says she loves your name--my sister is named Ava "Lise" after the character Liesl from "The Sound of Music."
