Katherine Rackliffe asked Rick Riordan:

Hi Rick! I was wondering if what you think of modern day myths, if there are any. Are there any stories that we tell that are similar to how the Greeks and Romans would have myths in the past? I think the closest equivalent would be superhero movies, where we tell the story of Superman a hundred times, and he's this hero with some elements that stay consistent and others that people remix, but I'm not sure.

Rick Riordan Absolutely. Superhero stories are very much our modern equivalent of god/hero myths. The characters change. The means of telling stories change. But the human experience really doesn't change much. We are always going to be interested in imagining what we would be if we could be bigger versions of ourselves: powerful, famous, immortal, eternal. Building, adding to, perpetuating these myths is our way of trying to be part of something that will last longer than we will individually, imo.
