Dear Frances, my question is about your fascinating book Under the Tuscan Sun, I would like to know how did you cope with cultural differences, how did they impacted your life? That was the hardest part I had to live when married a man from a totally different culture of mine.

Frances Mayes I didn't have to marry those differences--just appreciated them! I would think that flexibility on both sides would be key if marrying into a radically different culture.

I grew up in McRae, near Fitzgerald. Any advice specific to memoir writing you might offer me? Wasn't it the S&S Cafeteria next to Davison's in Macon, not Morrison's. I remember the well-dressed lady who played the piano there. Thanks for a walk down memory lane.

I feel that the inspiration to write a memoir is motivated by unfortunate (but, with time, eventually fantastic) experiences - when you wrote Under the Tuscan Sun in spurts, did you find it negative at first? Did you re-write some parts because of that? PS - You've been a literary and life-inspiring hero of mine since the age of 15!
