Hey! I loved the first season of Percy Jackson as a huge fan of the books I had high hopes but it exceeded my expectations and the casting was phenomenal! I was wondering do you have a "wish list" so to speak of actors/actresses you'd like to cast in later seasons of the show? What's your process when selecting cast members?
Rick Riordan
Glad you've enjoyed the show! No, I don't ever have a wish list for casting. Most of the actors we find, especially the young actors, aren't people I've heard of before. I just try to keep an open mind and watch all the tapes submitted. The process is run by our casting director. They are the person who puts out calls for auditions, collects the tapes, presents them to us (the producers) and coordinates all communications with actors and agents. It is a massive job and quite specialized, but it's important that there is only one point of contact for everyone. I've gained a great deal of respect for how hard casting directors work. I don't involve myself in the casting until the casting director starts sending us tapes, so when people ask me, 'please, please cast me,' as happens approximately 1,452,024 times a day, it's kind of wasted effort. The person you need to find and convince is the casting director.

Hi, Rick! I'm a huge Leo Valdez fan—I relate to my bro so much and not only because I'm Mexican, hahaha. I have some questions about him. What would you say is his real fatal flaw as a hero? Some people say it’s that he feels inferior to others and that's why he always compares himself to them, and I can totally see that, but I’d love to hear your take. Also, do you think we might see him again in a future book?

Wishful thinking here: (If the show ever gets to HOO) In the hypothetical case that Will's actor happened to look similar to his character counterpart and he looked the same as Percy, with blue eyes and blond hair. How would you feel about still keeping in the "not my type" line Nico says when he drops the bomb on Percy in Blood of Olympus? I think it would be even more iconic, personally.
