Pat Kelley asked Tami Hoag:

Tami, I've been one of your readers (and buyers!) for years, and am also an aspiring author. Once you have the initial concept for a new novel, how do you go about developing the plot? Do you have a "system" of some kind, are you a writer who "lets the book write itself," or something in between? Please describe that creative process for us. Thanks, and keep writing wonderful books!

Tami Hoag I am a fly by the seat of my pants kind of writer. I begin with the crime that is central to the story, and let the book go where it will as the investigation unfolds. It can be a very scary way to write a book, but it's what works for me. If you're the kind of writer who can work from an outline, God love you. I wish I could do that, but outlines make me miserable.
