Where do you get your inspiration for the characters in your novels? How long does it take to put a novel together and where do you begin?

Characters just sort of appear for me. They are seldom inspired by or patterned after anyone in real life. That's part of the magic of writing, I guess. I spend 6-9 months working on a novel, and I always start with the crime that is central to the story.

I know you struggle to finish writing under a deadline. Does the deadline truly help or just rush your story? Do you write outside or just at a desk? When you write, do you have an ending already set, or do your characters evolve and change the ending? ( I love your writing style and I can't wait for more of your books in my future)
