Niall Teasdale:
I have been rereading the thaumatology books and i find myself wondering what is the state of the soviet union in this universe?

Exceptionally good question and not an easy one to answer. Over towards China the Dragon Empire holds large portions of land, and in the west the ground is held by fae and sundry other supernatural entities.
That (very, very big) middle section, however, sits in the band of territory which could best be described as "reserved for future use." I am fairly certain that a lot of it is fairly wild and largely untamed; much of it could be described that way now even if there are cities and people and civilisation. Tough place to live I would imagine (not having lived there). I suspect that much of Siberia has some similarities to Canada above the Snow Line, and the more temperate regions have fallen back on agrarian social structures (a bit like eastern Germany).
What I do know for sure is that it is essentially out of communication with the rest of the world. Anything could be happening in there and our heroines would be entirely unaware. Some of their world is unknown to me because it's unknown to them. Which makes it sound like I channel Ceri to write the books, but sometimes that's how it feels and I go with it.
That region, northern America, and Africa are pretty much sitting there wondering when I'll get around to writing something (probably dark and foreboding) in them. We'll see.
