Hi! Wanted to share some appreciation for your work. The Tunnels series was definitely my favorite back when I read it almost 10 years ago. And until now, they're nicely positioned on my shelf such that I see them each morning. Personally, I'm interested in what sort of, if any, research you've done prior to the books, maybe about geology, architecture etc?
Roderick Gordon
Sorry to take so long to answer you! And thank you for your question. I didn't have to do much research at all because I had an interest in geology from when I was very young. My paternal grandfather (who died long before I was born) was a geologist - he mainly worked in Africa but also travelled the world working on new mineral finds, and this clearly rubbed off on my father who took me off on expeditions from an very early age to the south coast of the UK to go fossil hunting. My great-great-grandfather William Buckland was one of the first palaeontologists and named the first dinosaur (the Megalosaurus) and also coined the word for dinosaur pooh (Coprolites), so it probably all flowed from there. As for architecture, London is such an incredible source of inspiration so if you walk around and take an interest in your surroundings, you can't help but absorb the architecture.

Hey Gordon, years later I still gotta check if you think another book of the tunnels series will be released?Leaving it unfinished like you did leaves for creative endings in readers heads, but I personally feel like there were just too many holes in Terminal to end it like that. Of course it's always up to whatever you and your publisher decide to do.

Hello. In my English class I had to pick a Book to read and do a project about the author and the book. I picked to read Deeper, because I read Tunnels last year and I loved it. I just wanted to ask you a few questions for my project: What's your favorite book you've written? Where do you get your ideas for writing? Who inspired you to write? What type of books and genres do you read? Thank you, Rocio :)
