Day Ravenstone
Day Ravenstone asked Rachael Stewart:

How come you chose to write The Puck Stops Here about the NHL when there’s professional hockey in the UK too? I know a lot of EIHL fans who would love to read a book set in our league (especially during the off season).

Rachael Stewart Hi Day, That's such a great question—and I completely get where you're coming from. The EIHL holds a special place in my heart too! My first boyfriend actually played for the Cardiff Devils U18s, so I have a real soft spot for the sport in the UK 😈❤️

When it came to The Puck Stops Here, the decision to go with the NHL was more about what worked best across the broader arc of the series. I don't know if you've seen, but it is Book 3 in The Karma Club quartet, with Blake's twin getting his own story in Book 4 written by Australian author Clare Connelly. Together we had to make a decision on where we wanted our heroes to be based...bearing in mind they also started out as NFL players until we realised hockey tickled our author tastebuds more 😂 I know as an author you'll understand that one! And since book 1 was already set in Cornwall we figured North America would mix it up for our readers too.

So yes, it may not seem like a natural choice, but it took many twists and turns before Clare and I landed on the NHL.

That said, this is my first hockey book but I don't think it'll be my last. I adored living and breathing the sport and I’d love to shine a light on UK hockey in the future. It absolutely deserves more representation in fiction so never say never!

Thank you so much for asking and I hope that answers your question. Sorry for the waffle! 🩷
