Hi! I read that everyone is asking about a sequel for Openly Straight. What about for Out of the Pocket?

Bill Konigsberg Hi there! Believe it or not, years ago I did write a second book that was about Bryan's younger brother going to a football camp where Bobby and some of his buddies taught that next summer. It was going to be published and then some things happened beyond my control and it was swapped out for Openly Straight. Maybe someday I will self-publish that book. Otherwise, I'm afraid I'm probably done writing about Bobby. :-(

Hi Bill! I noticed that Openly Straight has quite an emphasis on sport (thanks for making it vague enough for us non-sports-players), and I assume Out of the Pocket will be sports-heavy too. What's your opinion on why so many gay YA novels end up being sports-focused (re: Steve Kluger)? Is it a masculinity thing? As a gay woman, this gay male + sport thing just doesn't make much sense to me. Can you shed any light?
