Shannon Messenger Well first--thank you for wanting to read the books. And even more for not illegally downloading them (illegal downloads can be so hugely harmful to an author--not to mention they're, yanno, illegal, so...bad idea.).

And to answer your question, yes, one of the amazing things about books is that there are Libraries, where you can read books for free! All it takes is a library card. Libraries were my staple growing up (we could never afford to buy books). And many times if the library isn't carrying the book you want, you can request the librarian to order in a copy. It might take a little while, but librarians are amazing people and will help you find other awesome books to read while you wait.
