Hi Brian - first to gush, I have utterly loved The Powder Mage, having recently read Autumn Republic and going back through the shorts stories it is ages since I found myself so engrossed in so many characters and their world. Question, did any of your characters (I suppose Tamas particularly) draw any inspiration from real historical figures? He always felt to have elements of a Napoleon or Julius Caesar to him.

For sure. I've always been a little in love with historical generals, especially Napoleon and Caesar. I did a lot of reading on both of them to get inspiration for Tamas. Highly recommend the book Caesar's Legion.

I first wanted to thank you for this wonderful story. I have still not recovered from the read, one of my favorite ever. As to the question, I just wondered why you didn't give your characters a family name (except for noble people like the lady Winceslas or Erika ja Leora). Did you do it on purpose ? As another difference between the nobility and the common people ?
