Michael, first of all, thanks for being an inspiration to budding authors like myself. I appreciate the feedback and insight you gave me during the writing phase of my first book, Ohlen's Arrow. And now onto my question: What do you think of that old writer's adage, "Beer for creativity, coffee for productivity" ?
Michael J. Sullivan
Hey Steve,
You are most welcome. I hope Ohlen's Arrow is doing well. There is another adage, "Write drunk, edit sober." -- which fits in nicely with the perception that all authors live within a bottle.
I write in the mornings, so the coffee is definitely my beverage of choice. I've never written after a few drinks, although I have jotted down notes and such. For me, the biggest inspiration to spur on creativity is long walks...while talking to myself (and yes out loud so I do the walks in places that don't have many people running around). There is something about stimulating the part of my brain where verbal communication exists that gets my creative thoughts flowing.

Hi Michael, Your website doesn't have a section on book order reading? I've searched online and found conflicting info. I'm listening to Age of Myth which I'm thoroughly enjoying. Very happy with Tim Gerard Reynolds as voice narrator, btw. Would appreciate guidance on the ready order please. Thank you.

I was wondering, since your energies are primarily directed toward the Cycle series now (and it sounds like a huge undertaking), is it still possible we could get another Ryria Chronicles at some point? You still have it listed as an ongoing series (rather than completed), and I would love to continue to enjoy the adventures of Rocye and Hadrian! Thanks for all you do!

This question might be a more personal choice between authors but I know that is Stephen King's books about writing, he says adverbs "pave the road to hell" and in a few of my creative writing classes that adverbs are weak writing. I was wondering if you find this to be a steadfast rule across all writing or if its case by case, or in modern writing does it matter less the use of adverbs? Thanks for your answer!
