Alas, I work very hard to make sure they ... don't. Just like I work very hard to make sure I don't let my own hopes and preferences get in the way.
The fact is, it's Sophie's story. It should be her decision, not ours. So I do everything I can to make sure I'm writing each scene simply by asking, "What will Sophie do now?" in response to all the things happening. I'm hoping that will lead me to a choice that--while obviously incapable of satisfying all three teams equally--will at least be one everyone believes and understands. And I'll be just as surprised as everyone else when I see what Sophie does.
