Amna Ali asked Penelope Douglas:

hey Pen i loved Aflame through and through so well Jared stole my heart, he completely outdid himself in this book, i love your writing style but when you write from Jared's POV your words become more powerful. Why do you think readers are always quick to judge him?

Penelope Douglas Hi, Amna!

That's an excellent question. Of course, I can't speak for the reader. They come from an entirely different perspective, but if I had to guess, it's because Tate had almost always been a good person. She was kind and generous, and she was strong. Much like the woman we all want to be. Even during the times she acted up, it was easy to forgive her, because we identified with her. She deserved the world.

Jared had been cruel, threatening, and--yes--abusive in high school. He didn't instill confidence the way Tate did. The readers wanted to trust him, but it was hard when he kept disappointing them.

And that kept happening, because he was weak. He still didn't know what he was made of.

With Aflame, and the Epilogue, I hope most readers now have full confidence in Jared and Tate's happily ever after. :)
