Stephen Byron
Stephen Byron asked Shaun David Hutchinson:

So Shaun what type of books do you like to write about and read?

Shaun David Hutchinson Lordy...my interests are so varied that it's tough to nail down any one thing I like writing about, but I think the common thread everything I write shares is average, normal characters dealing with really weird situations. I really enjoy exploring how average people react to extraordinary circumstances. I love exploring the relationships between people, the ways in which we have both the family we're born into and the families we create for ourselves. Everything I write has a plot, but the plot is always just a way for me to write about characters—because those are what I really love.

As for books...I'll pretty much read anything. I grew up reading lots of fantasy, but I don't read as much of it anymore. I definitely love sci-fi. But, I suppose, like writing, my favorite books are those that focus on characters. I dig plot-heavy books too, but I really love the books that explore characters in great depth, and it doesn't matter what genre. Some of my recent favorites are books by Andrew Smith and Courtney Summers and Victoria Schwab.
