My last name is Polish. In Poland, it would actually end in an "a" because I'm a girl (Staniszewska), but after my family and I moved to the US, we all started using the masculine form of the name so that people didn't get confused.

When you write something like Gone Girl, or Sharp Objects, are you afraid of hurting your husband's or your mom's feelings with the things you say about those relationships that, granted, are not necessarily autobiographical, but that may contain half-truths drawn from real life?
