Isabella asked Kate Quinn:

Hello. Firstly congratulations on the beautiful written books - they are simply so genuine and authentic. I would like to ask: What draws to a particular era? Is it the brutality, the uprising or its downfall?

Kate Quinn Thank you, so glad you enjoyed my book! As for era, I like historical eras that offer a lot of richness, knowledge, variation, and, sorry to say, violence (since that means automatic conflict for a book). Imperial Rome is wonderful because you have wars and slavery and blood-sport right alongside the incredible achievements in art, architecture, and law. Renaissance Italy is wonderful because medieval superstition, city-state warfare, and the bloodshed of the Church exist cheek by jowl with the most incredible flowering of art, science, literature, and faith. Rich fields like that give so much grist for story-telling - and there are many more eras just as full of potential which I'd love to tackle in the future.
